Russian river turned red by metallurgical waste, Norilsk Nickel says

According to CNN.com; Russian river, the Dalyan River, turned red after a nickel spill from Norilsk Nickel which is the world’s largest nickel producer. “On the 5th of september after abnormal heavy rain” Nickel stated. This heavy rain alarmed residents as the unidentified chemical stained the water red. The flooding due to heavy rain initially led to this flood that distributed massive deposits of nickel, copper and aluminium. However, as previously mentioned, the chemical that turned the water red is still unknown.Residents have seen similar surrealistic scenes before. There is a lot of mining near Norilsk, because the area has massive deposits of nickel, copper and palladium. Because of that is why the dalyan river is red.
From my prior knowledge and my opinion I believe that this is very unhealthy towards the people that are currently living there due to the fact that they have to find a different water source to live off of  for the time being. To add on to that,  as well as losing a water source they are also losing a small amount of supply from the nickele spill. Also the loss of nickel, copper, and aluminum

  1. Why should we care about this? How does this relate to government?

    1. Shouldn't the government tell the people what chemical is in their river and harmful it can be?

    1. Can "accidents" of this magnitude be excusable? Should "accident" happen?

p.s. Change your name so we know who we are talking to.

  4. Reasons on why feel we should care speaking for the united States is simply because we trade with other countries for resources. That spill contained the largest nickel supply in the world that now we must suffer a delay.

  5. I would love to know what the worlds largest nickel producer has to say about this spill. If he is doing anything to help the community of people that need this river. Or did he tell the public how this spill happened, whats the chemical in the water, how are they going to clean it up etc.

  7. This is another example of wealthy organizations putting their product above the well being of others. This is a reason for government should regulate these type of resources. Recurring events keep happening where a big buisness effects the lives of many people. The Bpoil spill in 2010 effects thousands of people in the Gulf due to carelessness and neglect. Also the flint crisis that continues to go on in Michagan due to the lack of consideration of the people. This is another warning of how these companies shouldnt be in position to harm people and how the government should intervene.
