South Africa's New Leader

Over the past week, there has been talk of the election for the new leader of South America, monitored by the ANC( African National Congress). It is Africa's democratic political party and it has won every election since Nelson Mandela's election. This election will be seen as the most important election in the country. The previous leader, Jacob Zuma, is forced to step down as president. Many have felt that he was involved with a corrupt relationship with the Guptas, a wealthy Indian family, and facing prospect on 18 charges. There has been opposition to remove him as president and he was defeated. However, his leave of absence can spark negative effects in the political party. The election can cause political infighting and may has led assumptions to the party to split. It has even said the ANC will be at a crossroads because of this event. The new presidential candidates will be  Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Cyril Ramaphosa. The winner of this election will decide the leadership and fate of South Africa. Do you think the situation will become better due to receiving a new president and do you think something else should be done about this situation?

  1. It looks like to me that Jacob Zuma was not doing a good job if he was indeed involved with corruption. It is easy to determine or conclude that a new leader for South Africa would be appropriate in order to stop this corruption from getting any worse. I'm not sure if this Nkosazana or Cyril will be any better, but it's good to fix what is indeed broken. The country should also try to make measures to prevent another situation like this from happening so they don't have re-elect every time. Do you think that this will spark a new party to rise as a result of this?

  2. I feel like this would need to spark a new party because nobody of the parties in the election or in office are suitable Enough, and other people in their parties practice their same belief so it would be no different. A new party with different morals should be arranged

  3. I believe change can happen if the new elects has nothing to do with the previous one. If the new elects has some connection with the previous president then some corruption can still linger but I do believe that was the right move for the country. If the previous president wasn't removed then so many negative effects could have caused, liked Africa being run by a Indian family. With the new elects a lot of change will come because how they feel on certain topics and issues but a overall improvement I feel will come but every change has its set backs for a little while at least.

    1. I do agree with you that the new elects could change if they weren't related to the previous one's, but one of the elect's is Zuma's ex wife. No matter what, I think that they same thing would happen since she has the same relationship with Zuma.

  4. I think things can change but I also think there needs to be a clean sweep of south Africas government because if there was even a sense of corruption that means there should be all types of corruption in the government. Although the party may seem to split because the way I see it south Africa's government is probably similar to Americas therefore it can create a third party which can revolutionize the government in South Africa. to conclude Jacob Zumas resign is a good thing because it opens for the chance of change.

  5. If Jacob was corrupt then I’m sure there’s more people in the system that were in on it with him, so I don’t think just getting a new president will make a big change. The whole government needs to be reevaluated or a new party should be presented (as Richard said) so they can have a fresh start with no issues.
