The gun control problem

On February 25th, the following events that occurred at Parkland Florida a lawmaker Rep. Ryan Costello had called for tougher rules and restrictions regarding firearm purchases, uses and users. He referred to different acts that could be implemented to put these different rules and regulations in place. The Toomey Manchin bill would invrease background checks for firearms purchases and also the fix Nics Act which would be able to improve the wuality and accuracy of background checks in the system. Costello than went and explained he would support a ban on Assault rifles. “I think therd is a group of things that everyone can agree to, and then we move into the discussion and hopefully develop a vocabulary that everyone can wrap their arms around”. Trumpa also supports this ban while also trying to get rid of devices called bump stocks which help assault rifles shoot hundreds of rounds per minutes.
In a way congress and lawmakers have an extremely big part in this matter not just the people trying to help the victims anyway they can. Congress and lawmakers have the power to make it so a bill to help can eihter get passed or stay in the house/senate until they aren’t able to agree on it or they kill it.
The bills mentioned in this article make me wonder why don’t they try it an see if it actually can help and maybe it’ll be for the better. It seems as if congress stalls for time although there is none left and this needs to happen now. Do you believe that congress could be a main factor in this situation or not?
What is something they could do in order help resolve this?

  1. I agree that it seems they’re stalling for time. I’m not sure why every time there’s an important issue it takes so long to be dealt with. However, I do think it’s a good thing that trump is on board with gun control and wants to ban bump stocks. This shows that he is somewhat capable of making logical decisions. Hopefully when the division is made it is the right one and within a timely fashion.

  2. After learning how difficult it is to make a bill a law I feel that this bill will not become a law for this reason. Majority of the house is republicans, Republicans are supportered by the NRA and you have people who’s interest groups who helped with the funding is the NRA so if you think about it do you really think this will be a law ? I feel that this bill is only to calm down the crowd because there has been a lot of shootings over the years and has the government done anything about it ? I feel that the Gun control law is not a priority for the government which is why this bill would probably not last in a debate due to the reasons I stated.

  3. I think Congress plays a big role in this situation because they make the laws for people to follow. Congress also takes their time with making these laws and then needs to make sure people are following them so they are the big factor in this situation. I also believe congress can pass these laws to see how they preform because then will know if what people are saying are right or wrong. It also shows how much they want to play a part in this by moving fast or moving slow so they need to be that deciding factor because at the end of the day they are the ones to make, break, and keep the laws that are good and bad. Without them playing the role they need to nothing will change and people will always say and do how they feel with guns and these gun laws.

  4. In my opinion, Congress can be a main factor because they decide what laws are to be put in place. It is in their hands whether we get a law to restrict guns. I don't support the fact that bill will take long to be enacted. The need for laws like these need to be enacted as soon as possible, so that there will not be another incident like what happened before. Even if it takes a while for bills to be reviewed, this bill should be sent in as quick as possible to ensure safety. I think that having Trump support this bill would increase the speed of productivity of the bill taking effect.
