Opioid Deaths

Ever since the Vietnam war the drug opioid has made a huge impact on America killing most of those in its wake. Even though there has been bills to try and keep it handled these types of drugs opium seems to keep evading them. Opioid has sadly managed to kill 42,000 people per year just from overdosing, and this number only seems to be increasing as over the year 2015 to 2016 the deaths have risen by nearly 28%. A program called Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) which was used to help distort the opioid problem. But it only helped put one piece to the one piece to the problem. Legislators have also began to make another version of CARA called CARA 2.0, which would include the pieces that were taken out before. This one would be able to have $6 billion dollars which would go into helping combat opioid overdoses and mental health problems. Such products would be a reversal overdose drug which will be accessible to communities and non medical settings which would help those who may have a relative or someone they know that may have used an overdose from the opioid drug. They will also be moving the focus from having a high emphasis on law enforcement's on drugs to making a better bill that will help those who are affected by drugs. As our country has seen there has been a huge impact on the people due to drugs itself. Instead of just locking up those who do drugs to actually helping those who are need a way to combat it. Along with these drugs will there be any other way to apart of the bill that maybe able to help drug victims?

  1. There are so many different drugs in existence that have caused problems over the years. Honestly I think the drugs themselves are only a small part of the issue. The bigger issue is the victims of drug use themselves and what they go through. There needs to be more awareness on mental illness, depression, and stress because these are some of the reason why people get addicted to drugs. If the government figures out a way to combat the reasons for drug use, then maybe it would be easier to combat the drugs themselves.

  2. This is very interesting because I feel that people that use drugs uses it for certain reasons some people do it for enjoyment others do it to get away. I think the problem is not the drug itself but the reasons why people use drugs and the conditions that they are in are the reasons why they use drugs even though people in good condition people still use drugs which falls back on the reason why they do drugs I feel that in order to limit the use of deadly drugs the conditions of the environment needs to change and crack down on people who are either selling or writing prescriptions for them once you eliminate the resource it becomes slightly easier to help victims who are effected with rehab

  3. More programs like this should be here to help people who need them the most. I also feel these programs would do more if they had people to push these programs. Without these people to push these programs problems, like money, go in play and new programs have to be started to fix for the old one. Programs like these are very needed and helpful to the people who needs them. I do have some questions though, like which government officials actually play a role in these programs. Also how much do these programs get from the government to start up.

  4. There are many ways to help drug victims without enacting a bill. There are many programs that specialize in helping others with drug issues. I feel that it would be better to push these programs on the people in need. These programs are not widely known to the public so it would be wise to advertise these programs more to the people and show that they have support. It would also help if these programs were funded more. If they were funded more, it would better aid people in need. Finally, I would like to point out that stopping those who are distributing the drugs would stop the distribution of the drugs and prevent people from getting hurt.
