North Carolina V. Hurricane Matthew

Hurricane Matthew left widespread devastation while passing through the Caribbean and the southern states of the U.S. As the 130 mph winds ripped through places like North Carolina where the death toll is 27 and Haiti, in which over 1,000 people died, the hurricane left millions of families with little to nothing. A mom by the name of Toshika Medley and her son Javares Dawes from Rocky Mount, North Carolina lost everything in the hurricane. They had to leave their apartment complex because of the rapidly rising tar river and are currently staying in a shelter where a small group of volunteers are doing their best to make Toshika and her son comfortable. They still have nowhere else to go and the question that comes to mind is "where do they go from here?". Anyone in this predicament would feel discouraged just like Toshika and Javares, but the fact of the matter is neither of them wants to live in a shelter forever so how do they recover from their devastating loss?

  2. Is it the governments responsibility to help the citizens of the united states and Haiti. The U.S media is reporting on the tragedies that were caused by the hurricane does that give the government power over what happened to Haiti since they can provide aid and bring light to the subject.

    1. I feel as though the American government's first and foremost duty is to its people; however, in order to maintain healthy relationships with other places and allies I do feel like the U.S should help. In short, my personal opinion is that America should help when they can; however, they are not obligated to do so.

  3. I feel as though the government should provide some assistance to people in this situation. It is no ones fault that a natural disaster destroyed their home but I feel it is a governments duty to its duty to help its people.

    1. I agree with you. The people of this nation should be the first priority for the government. Therefore the government should supply the needs of the people who suffered from Hurricane Matthew but, how do they go about doing that.

  4. Many branches of government provide help for this disaster. The legislative branch can make or create a budget that helps the people. However the bureaucracy ( through the executive branch) can provide relief like the Red cross and the National Guard.
