Freed Chibok girls reunited with families
82 Chinok school girls were released by Boko Haram and reunited with their families on Saturday. The former captives are now ages 18-21. They are believed to have been among the 276 pupils forced from their beds by Boko Haram militants in the middle of the night. This happened April 2014. The kidnapping from the Chibok school sparked global outrage and the social media movement #BringBackOurGirls. The nigerian government had to make negotiations to retrieve the girls who were abducted from their school. 5 Top commanders have been released in exchange for some of the girls. I think this is an issue that we as a country should get involved in and try to help the Nigerian community to get their girls back. The military is acting as a tyrant and using forceful and negative tactics to get what they want. Donald Trump should send troops to alleviate the problem there and sign treaties that can help further our relations between other African countries. What do you think should be done?

Personally I think that it would be a great way to build a partner within Nigeria if we were to help them. I think an injustice as inhuman as the kidnapping of these girls is something the world should assist with. If they don't have the resources to fight criminals like Boko then we should help. On the opposite spectrum though we should stay out of other country's business and keep to ourselves. By us involving ourselves we could elevate the current danger and only make things worse. Then we would end up starting a fight that we didn't have any business in to begin with.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this somewhat, however, I am more on the side of not wanting America to get directly involved. Instead of sending in troops America should try to negotiate. The reason why I feel this way is because I think that directly putting in troops will make america seem as more of a threat to. This will soon sow in the seeds of even more terrorism. The United states already deals with terrorism and adding another outlet for it will definitely go against the main duty of the government(to protect its citizens). If the united states can negotiate well enough to stop all the dissension within Nigeria then they will be doing what is best for america and its people. It will build a greater relationship with Nigeria without building too much of an enemy
DeleteTo go of of what Isaiah said, i would like to agree with him beacuse we have no relation with them. Although it would be nice of us to help them out, sadly there is nothing we can do about it. And like he said if were to do something, we would also have to share the same faith as them. To me that wouldnt be that big of a problem because we are a super power, we have enough money and troops to help them out, but since we don't really know whats going on over there and our president isnt looking to strong over here, we dont know whats going to happen.
DeleteI believe Trump would not be the person to go help another country unless he was advised to. He may do this to make his image look better but I believe we as a country should help. This can be a show of allies helping each other. But if we do send our military to help find the girls how will that look to other countries. If our military just go there shooting people to find the girls this may cause other countries to give us a bad image. Which can affect our trade with other countries and that can affect our money flow in the economy.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that girls were kidnapped and only a few have been found is sad but I do not think that Donald trump should get involved in any foreign affairs. I feel like trump is not going to act logically in these situations. I say this because trump was a very successful business man and he would probably put us to war because war would only benefit the business. I fee; like Nigeria should resort to other foreign countries for help if not they should do it themselves
ReplyDeleteIm going to hold true to my opinion on foreign affairs and say that america should not become involved in anyway. At most i believe that we should not get involved in any way with our military since the countries are working out there conflicts on their own. So far we also have not seen how Trump preforms as a diplomat so war should be our last option when handling foreign conflicts. It would be smart to show moral support first instead of jumping straight to war.
ReplyDeleteIt is understandable that you would want for us to help the nigerian community. However, because we are currently facing problems within our own country, we should not intervene. It might sound cruel that I do not think we should help, but america is at a weak point. Political division, racial tension, and so many other problems surround our country. Not only that, our president is not the most liked person in the country as of now. Because of this, there will be arguments about whether or not to follow his plans and actions, regardless if his ideas are sound and reasonable. If we are to help any other country, we need to help ourselves first.
