Smog in Delhi

In New Delhi schools will be closed for the next three days due to air pollution. The Constitution and demolition that was taking place was banned for five weeks. Delhi's Chief Minister came up with an idea of odd-eve rationing for cars where car were only allowed to operate on alternate days based on their license plate numbers. I understand that this system would take many cars on the street daily but is this really an effective solution? I personally think that this is not a solution at all. This is just a system that slows down the rate of the air pollution in Delhi and nothing more. They need programs or laws in place where This incident becomes less likely to happen again. What do you think? Did it fix the heart of the problem or did it solve the current situation?

  1. i understand how important transportation is and how lots of adults drive on their own however i don't see Delhi's Chief Minister's idea to be of good use to help stop their air pollution.

in my opinion a more effective way would be to tell people to stop driving their cars and to have trolley's installed through out the state if possible

    1. I totally agree with you. This plan to stop pollution will not be effective due to the fact that people would run two days worth of errands because they can only drive every other day. In my opinion they would pollute the air at the same rate as before.

  2. I agree that the current solution isn't actually a solution at all rather than just a way to postpone what is happening. What do you think the government could do to fix this. I see Eric's idea with the trolleys but I don' think that people would actually be okay with doing this simply because cars are more efficient in terms of speed and reliability. There have been acts in the past designed to help stop air pollution (for example the clean air act of 1970). Do you feel as though they were ineffective and therefore a waste of money?

  3. I would say that I agree that this isn't an actual solution at all. I don't even think it solves their current situation either. As long as cars are on the road they add to the pollution in the air. Reducing the amount of cars driving on a specific day probably wouldn't help their problem much at all. As long as there is a constant factor adding to the pollution this issue will continue to persist.
